Its that time of the year when all the major broadcast networks (NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS and The CW) gather together to present their fall TV schedules to advertisers. This means that going into the week, most of the previous season’s shows will have already been renewed or cancelled (like NBC’s Constantine), paving the way for next season’s new crop of dramas and comedies.
NBC kicks off the event tomorrow at 11am eastern, and as such, they’ve already released their fall 2015 schedule, along with stills, artwork and trailers for their upcoming series. Fan-favorites Chicago Fire, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago P.D., The Blacklist and Grimm are staying put on their current air nights, but NBC will also premiere four new dramas this fall.
The first, Blindspot (above) – from executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl) and Sarah Schechter, writer Martin Gero, and director Mark Pellington – is getting the network’s coveted spot @10pm on Mondays after The Voice.
Jaimie Alexander (Thor, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) stars as Jane Doe, a beautiful woman covered in mysterious intricate tattoos who is discovered naked in Times Square with no memory of who she is or how she got there. But there’s one tattoo that stands out, the name of FBI agent Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton, Strike Back), emblazoned across her back. Agent Weller and the rest of the FBI quickly realize that each mark on her body is a crime to solve, leading them closer to the truth about her identity and the mysteries to be revealed.
Then on Thursdays, NBC is establishing a new night of Sony TV dramas, with The Blacklist and new series The Player(above) airing @9 and 10pm after new event series Heroes Reborn. The Player — from John Davis and John Fox (executive producers of The Blacklist), writer John Rogers and director Bharat Nalluri — stars Wesley Snipes and Philip Winchester (Strike Back, Fringe).
Winchester plays a former military operative turned security expert who is drawn into a high-stakes game where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on his ability to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable. All while he also tries to take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife. The cast also includes Charity Wakefield and Damon Gupton.
NBC canceled or ended a lot of its 2014 lineup over the last few months, preferring to start fresh going into the 2015 season. But it looks like it may have been worth it because the network’s new dramas Blindspot, The Player, Heroes Reborn and Heartbreaker seem to be solid contenders, with notable talent both in front and behind the scenes.
Their comedy slate, however is almost nonexistent at this point, only appearing next season on Fridays before Grimm. NBC has Undateable returning @8pm on Friday with new all-live episodes, followed by new comedy People Are Talking starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Franklin & Bash, Saved By the Bell) @8:30pm.
