The power of being dynamic. I still remember the first time I heard of Netflix some years back. I flew straight to their site in excitement but, got disappointed when I saw the message about the streaming service ‘not available for your country’. I was heartbroken.
Now Netflix is on the path of world domination. Fast forward to 2016,its a completely new story, because, as of yesterday, that message is gone to be replaced with a $7.99 and ‘Start Your Free Month’ button. It was announced at CES 2016 during the Netflix keynote. In summary, it was revealed that the service would be available in about 130 countries including Nigeria. Although countries like China would still be excluded for now.
For those who don’t know, Netflix is an American multinational provider of on-demand Internet streaming media, and of flat rate DVD-by-mail in the United States, where mailed DVDs and Blu-ray Disc are sent via Permit Reply Mail.
The company was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. It started its subscription-based service in 1999. By 2009, Netflix was offering a collection of 100,000 titles on DVD and had surpassed 10 million subscribers. Amazing!
As of October 2015, Netflix reported 69.17 million subscribers worldwide, including more than 43 million in the U.S. Now I’m pretty sure that number is going to increase over time, we’ll just watch and see.
